Republican Senators Ted Cruz And Chuck Grassley Have Filed A Gun Control Bill — Snatching Defeat From The Jaws Of Victory!

In a losing tactic that’s as old as the fight over gun rights: two Republican Senators have filed a gun control bill — likely in hopes of placating the left.  Yesterday we reported after Ted Cruz went on an epic rant, saying how useless the proposed gun control bills facing the Senate would be at stopping tragedies like what happened in Boulder, CO earlier this week.

The bills for consideration in Charles Schumer’s Senate are H.R. 8 — a universal background checks bill — and H.R. 1446 — a ten day waiting periods bill — as well as Dianne Feinstein’s assault weapon ban.

Cruz pointed out that those laws are basically already on the books.  We reported yesterday that Colorado already has universal background checks and the city of Boulder has banned ‘assault weapons’ in their city.  Additionally, the rampaging radical Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa had purchased his gun six days earlier, longer that most proposed waiting period legislation!

Why on earth would Ted Cruz and Chuck Grassley file a gun control bill?

First of all, they’re not the only Republicans who have expressed a willingness to compromise with the left.  Fox News reported:

Still, some Republicans think there may be hope to come together on legislation. “Tightening the background check system is possible. The House bill is too broad and goes too far for the Senate,” said Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio. “But I think something is possible.”

Asked about gun legislation Tuesday, Minority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said he’s “open to the discussion” but didn’t specify which bill he would support.

Not the brave leadership gun owners would expect from their former Senate Majority leader — but hardly a shock, considering that when Republicans controlled all three branches of the government from 2016-2018, they accomplished absolutely nothing for gun owners.

But Ted Cruz and Chuck Grassley went further than saying they’re willing to compromise.  They’re refiling a 2013 gun control bill of their own!

Fox continued:

“Thoughts and prayers alone are not enough. We need action,” Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said, echoing a line often used by Democrats after shooting tragedies. He called the House-passed bills “ridiculous theater” and said he and Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, would reintroduce their own bill. They say their bill would target those trying to buy firearms who were banned from owning them by creating a federal task force to prosecute them. It would also allow for the hiring of more Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco and Explosives (ATF) agents and implement other measures to strengthen existing gun laws. The bill received a majority vote when introduced in 2013 but did not meet the 60-vote filibuster threshold.

More ATF agents?  Federal task forces? Strengthen existing gun laws? What the heck do we need Democrats for?!

Don’t forget that Senator Grassley was one of the twenty Republican Senators who recently voted to confirm Biden’s choice for Attorney General, Merrick Garland.  We reported weeks ago that Garland was the most openly anti-gun candidate for Attorney General in American history — sitting to the left of Eric Holder!

Did Grassley have to do that?  Of course not! He was just playing nice with the party in power like the lifelong swamp monster he is!

Compromise Is Betrayal

While 90 to 100 million gun owners are fighting around the clock to stop gun control, these numbskull Republicans are about to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!

There is no reason for Republicans to sponsor any gun control bills of any kind!  They should be fighting tooth and nail to EXPAND gun rights so that lunatics like Ahmad Al Issa — a radical who was more than willing to jump around a dozen gun control laws to go on his rampage — aren’t facing a disarmed populace who are essentially fish in a barrel!

They should be fighting to stop everything! When Republicans show they’re willing to have a ‘little more’ gun control, it all but guarantees that some new form of gun control will pass!

Ted Cruz and Chuck Grassley should be ashamed.

And make no mistake: when Ted Cruz runs for office again — or more likely, runs for the White House again — grassroots gun rights organizations will not cover up his betrayal. Gun owners aren’t going to accept compromise anymore — even from those who imagine themselves the “favorite son” of the Republican party.
