Georgia Congressman Files SAPA Legislation That Would Nullify All Federal Gun Control Laws — SAPA Is Sweeping The Country

By staff

Atlanta, GA — Another legislator has seen the writing on the wall after 2020 and is working to advance gun rights for his constituents. Representative Philip Singleton has filed H.B. 597  which is titled the Second Amendment Preservation Act. Gun owners across the country are watching this legislation, often shortened to SAPA, as it spreads like wildfire.

Representative Singleton is another freshman Congressman who was only elected in a special runoff election in 2019.  But unlike many other new politicians, Singleton isn’t laying low and trying to make friends with the establishment RINOs.  No, Singleton came out swinging, filing the best pro-gun legislation Georgians have seen in years.

What Is SAPA?

SAPA nullifies federal gun control laws by requiring state law enforcement officers and state officials to only enforce state laws regarding firearms, ammo, and accessories — and only if that state law complies with the Second Amendment.  This bill essentially makes the entire state of Georgia into a second amendment sanctuary!

SAPA legislation is based on the well-established ‘anti-commandeering doctrine’ which states that the federal government may not simply ‘commandeer’ the state’s legislative authority and force them to submit to federal laws that conflict with state law.

The idea that the states are separate legal entities that have the right to tell the federal government to pound sand has been upheld by the Supreme Court repeatedly — by conservative and liberal justices alike — going back hundreds of years.

This legislation would mean that if Joe Biden and his radical Democrat legislature pass a federal law requiring the confiscation of the AR-15 and all magazines that hold over ten rounds of ammunition, that state’s city, state, and county authorities would be required to ignore it!

And if they tried to enforce federal law anyway — think of some liberal Chief of Police in an urban area — the gun owner whose rights were violated could civilly sue the offending official!

Georgia Is Joining The Pack

Rep. Singleton is working with Georgia’s largest and most powerful gun rights organization, Georgia Gun Owners.  This group packs a powerful punch if they alert their members to a bill, vote, or candidate who threatens the gun rights of Georgians.  On the other hand, they can also alert their members to contact their legislators and urge them to advance pro-gun legislation!

The missing component is usually a lack of a legislator with the spine to file gun bills that expand gun rights — but Georgians have found that 2A hero in Rep. Philip Singleton!

Meanwhile, Georgia Gun Owners is a ‘sister organization’ to several other powerful ‘no compromise’ gun groups around the country, including Iowa Gun Owners, Ohio Gun Owners, Minnesota Gun Rights, Wyoming Gun Owners, Missouri Firearms Coalition and more.

These groups are all pushing SAPA legislation in their states — and in places like Missouri and Wyoming, the legislation is moving fast!

Missouri has already filed SAPA legislation for this session and it’s already passed their House!  We reported when SAPA legislation was filed in Wyoming and Minnesota earlier this month.

We love to watch this movement grow and spread — it’s an idea whose time has come!
