Louisville, KY — A Kentucky man is in prison after allegedly breaking into his next-door neighbors’ house and undressing in her 12-year-old daughter’s bedroom.
Police say that around 7:00 am on Monday, April 14th, 2019, Donald Oliver, 38, crawled in through a window of the home in the 1200 block of Homeview Ave.
Oliver went into the 12-year-old girl’s bedroom and began to undress himself.
Tina Burton, the homeowner and mother of the young girl reported that her daughter didn’t panic but hid under the covers and texted her mom for help.
“She hid under the cover, turned her light down, turned her volume down on her phone to text me. When she peeked under the cover to see where he was at, she got up and ran away.”
The Text No Parent Wants to Receive
When Tina got the terrifying text from her daughter, she was instantly on high alert. “Who can be in the house?!”.
Tina had two more daughter’s in the house, as well as the girls’ father, Ali Bracey. When she was telling Bracey about the text, Oliver wandered—pantsless—from the girl’s bedroom out into the kitchen.
Bracey reacted immediately. He went into the kitchen and hollered at Oliver to leave. “I told him to get out, and he didn’t want to move. And he growled at me.”
As Oliver grew more belligerent, Bracey started to hit him with a broom and anything else he could lay his hands on.
“We’re still tussling. I’m punching, punching, punching him. It’s like it’s being effective, but at the time we’re fighting, I’m screaming ‘Get something! Grab something! Get something! Grab something!’ and next thing I know he got shot.”
That’s when Burton ran to her bedroom and returned with the handgun they kept by their bedside for an emergency. She gave the gun to Bracey, and he shot at Oliver.
Police said that Bracey shot the gun six times before Oliver finally realized his peril and took off. Tina Burton called police, who arrested Oliver next door at his house a short time later. He had several wounds, but none were life-threatening.
Arrested and Charged
The investigators also reported that they found a small bag of heroin near where Oliver took his pants off, and it’s assumed that the heroin belonged to him. After Oliver’s injuries were treated at a nearby hospital, he was arrested by police.
He was charged with burglary, assault, and possession of a controlled substance.
Oliver was still in a wheelchair when he appeared in court a week later. Due to his extensive criminal record, the judge set the bond at $50,000.
No Regrets At the Burton House
Meanwhile, things are quieter in the Burton’s neighborhood with Oliver gone from the house next door. Ali Bracey says he did what any father would do and has no plans to leave the neighborhood. Bracey went on, ““Everyone has actually commended me on what I did. There hasn’t been any real backlash other than the family (Oliver’s family). But everyone in the neighborhood has commended me on what I did.”
And we commend you too, Mr. Bracey. You did the right thing, and Mr. Oliver is going to spend a long time behind bars. He’s just lucky he’s not underground.
