Joe Biden has proudly stated on the campaign trail that he wants to eliminate the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) — and if he’s able to do it, he could bankrupt the entire firearms industry.
Back in 2005, then-President George W. Bush signed the PLCAA into law to protect firearms manufacturers from lawsuits brought by anti-gun radicals intent on bankrupting them.
But Joe Biden proposed doing away with that PLCAA protection, leaving gun manufactures wide open to lawsuits for the ‘criminal misuse’ of the products they make.
On February 7, 2020, Joe Biden openly said in front of a New Hampshire audience that it was a “mistake” to give “gun manufacturers … a loophole that does not allow them to be sued for the carnage they are creating.”
Biden went on to say, “The first thing I’m going to do as president is work to get rid of that, and it’s going to be hard.”
That’s not a casual mention. That’s “the first thing” he’s going to do by his own account!
The Left Applauded, So Biden Doubled Down
Just two weeks later, Biden’s comments had been well-received by his leftist supporters, so he reiterated the point. In South Carolina, Biden repeated his promise, staring into the camera and telling gun manufacturers, “I’m going to take you down.”
Months earlier — when the field of Democrat presidential candidates was still full of the most radical leftists in the country — Biden tried to prove that he could be just as anti-gun as the most radical newcomer on the stage.
During an October 2019 gun control forum in Las Vegas, Biden claimed opening gun makers up to lawsuits would result in “change overnight.”
What Would This Do To Manufacturing?
According to The Daily Caller who spoke with Missouri self-defense lawyer and firearms trainer Kevin Jamison about Biden’s plans, removing these PLCAA protections would be a disaster for the gun industry.
Jamison said, “The guys pushing these lawsuits, they don’t care if they win. They care if they can force these companies to hemorrhage money. They are in the business of putting gun companies out of business.”
Jamison added, “If they destroy enough companies or force them to adopt their rules of procedure then there will be no place to buy guns and that’s what they’re looking for. They want to make it as expensive to own a gun as humanly possible — and as difficult. If they get even part of their wish list, they won.”
