Mayor Durkin Responds To Trump’s Threat To DEFUND Seattle, Says That Lack Of Gun Control Is The Problem

President Trump said yesterday that the Federal Government is ‘going to do everything in it’s power’ to avoid bailing out Democrat-controlled cities who refused to put an end to the riots, violence and destruction in their streets.

But in Seattle — a city in need of a major bailout even before the rioting began and CHAZ/CHOP made them the laughingstock of the country — the Mayor wasn’t happy to hear Trump’s warning.

Mayor Durkin replied with a diatribe against Trump.  Noticeably absent was even a whisper about the violent protestors who racked up hundreds of millions of dollars in damage to her city.

Check out part of her statement here:

This is the latest attempt to distract from the fact that COVID-19 has infected over 6 million Americans, killed 185,000 people, and destroyed the American economy. The only anarchy zone in America, where the rule of law is disregarded, is at the White House.

America’s cities will not be distracted by his actions. We will continue to work to bridge divides, rebuild our economy, address gun violence and system and systemic racism, and make our cities more just and equitable.

While the entire thing is laughable, it’s worth pointing out that Mayor Durkin still thinks that the solution to Seattle’s problems is more gun control!

Seattle’s Gun Control Legacy

A quick review of Seattle’s recent history with gun laws might illustrate exactly how out of touch Durkin is on this topic.

In the last five years, Seattle’s leftist lawmakers have cracked down on law-abiding gun owners and even adopted a special tax on firearms and ammunition sales.  There were also two anti-gun rights initiatives (594 and 1639) that were supposed to prevent violence.

Of course, that’s corresponded to a rise in the city’s murder rate.  According to the Liberty Park Press, it’s been an abysmal failure:

There were 18 homicides in Seattle in 2016, the first full year that the gun and ammunition tax were in effect, according to Seattle police data. The following year (2017), that number jumped to 27 slayings, and in 2018, Seattle logged 31 murders, according to Seattle police data. Last year, Seattle saw 28 killings, and that number has already been eclipsed by the number of murders by early last month.

Mayor Jenny Durkin conveniently forgot to mention any of that!  She also omitted the details surrounding her cleanup of the CHAZ/CHOP fiasco.  She was happy to let that filthy, violent stew continue — even calling it a ‘summer of love — but only once the mob was in her neighborhood, marching on her mansion, did she put an end to it.

NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo continue whining as well, demanding Federal money to help bridge the gaps in their budgets.

Meanwhile, their gun controlled cities are the most violent, dangerous places in America!

Ridiculous.
