Four Michigan Sheriffs Tell Their Overstepping Governor They Won’t Enforce Her Outrageous Quarantine Edicts

Lansing, MI — Four county Sheriffs in northern Michigan made it clear yesterday that they will not enforce Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s latest quarantine edicts.   They share the opinions of tens of thousands of Michiganders that these edicts — while ostensibly about stopping the spread of the Chinese Virus — are actually just outrageous power grabs.

Sheriffs Ted Schendel, Mike Borkovich, Ken Falk, and Kim Cole represent counties in the northwest corner of Michigan’s “mitten”.  They expressed grave concerns about the extreme violation of their citizens’ civil rights.

The four magistrates issued a joint press release saying that their governor has “created a vague framework of emergency laws that only confuse Michigan citizens.”

“As a result, we will not have strict enforcement of these orders,” the sheriffs said. “We will deal with every case as an individual situation and apply common sense in assessing the apparent violation… We believe that we are the last line of defense in protecting your civil liberties.”

Whitmer Thinks This Is All An Ego Trip

Governor Whitmer has made headlines nationwide for her excessively strict ‘stay home stay safe’ orders.  It’s widely speculated that her quarantine restrictions are the worst in the country.

Michigan residents aren’t allowed to visit other homes–even other relatives who might rely on them.  They can’t even go to their own second residences–something more common in Michigan thanks to the Great Lakes and 1,100 inland lakes .allowing tens of thousands of residents to own lake homes.

Meanwhile, big box stores aren’t allowed to sell fruit and vegetable seeds or home repair supplies like paint and flooring.  But while Cruella de Whitmer has shut down sales of those items, she has not stopped the sales of liquor, lottery tickets..

Michiganders aren’t happy about it.  An online recall petition has over 250,000 signatures

Whitmer first issued a shelter in place order on March 23 with the additional guidelines sparking controversy last week. The extreme measures have prompted an online recall petition for the governor’s removal to circulate which has now racked up more than 261,000 signatures this morning.

Additionally, we told you yesterday how tens of thousands of citizens had a ‘drive in’ protest at the capital building in Lansing.  Check out the great pictures here.   It’s darn encouraging to see this sort of courage, especially when so many in America are willing to give all their rights away for the illusion of safety.

We are not.  Not our gun rights, our right to work, our right to travel, our right to buy ammo, our right to go shoot at the range if we want!

Interposition:  An Idea Whose Time Has Come and Should Never Have Left

We’re always happy to see sheriffs interposing between bad laws (or edicts, in this case) and their citizens. This idea comes from the English Common law and has a strong history in America.  If the tyrant king passes a tax on tea, the local lesser magistrate can “interpose” between the ruler and the people and say, “Enough!”

This is what gun owners are seeing all across the country with the Second Amendment Sanctuary movement.  Sheriffs are taking a stand against bad federal or state law are interposing for their citizens Constitutional right to bear arms.

That’s what these sheriffs have done–this time in the case of terrible quaratine edicts that are leaving tens of thousand of Michiganders unemployed and on the brink of financial disaster.  We hope the citizens they represent realize how rare that kind of leadership and courage are these days.  More power to them!
