Slate magazine published an angry screed this afternoon listing all the many reasons they hate Amy Coney Barrett. Barrett is the woman widely viewed as the candidate that President Trump is most likely to nominated to replace the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Slate set the stage by making sure their readers knew that Amy Coney Barrett holds to a “cruel worldview.”
She is a hardcore conservative, but that description doesn’t quite capture how radically her jurisprudence differs from Ginsburg’s. The justice viewed the Bill of Rights and civil rights acts as generous guarantees of human dignity that must be read expansively to achieve their purpose. By contrast, Barrett’s view of the law is fundamentally cruel.
That is, if you don’t want to disarm law-abiding citizens, you want to kill little children! How cruel! If you don’t want to fund the entire third world off the backs of America’s taxpayers, you’re a selfish, privileged racist!
Their Real Objection: Guns
The leftist rag went on to say that Barrett would dramatically expand Second Amendment rights.
…there is no doubt that Barrett would dramatically expand the Second Amendment, invalidating gun control measures around the country. It’s quite possible, perhaps even likely, that within a year of her confirmation, Americans will be forbidden from terminating a pregnancy in 21 states—but permitted to purchase assault weapons and carry firearms in public in every state.
These people are terrified of anybody who disagrees with them. Because they can’t imagine a world of free men and women who aren’t under the protection of the state, they have to dehumanize and attack anybody who thinks differently from them.
The Left Is Going Out Of Their Minds
These people would strip away our gun rights in two seconds if they get the chance. 2020 has illustrated just how far the anti-gun left will go in their quest for power. They’ll let mobs of people riot, loot and burn America’s cities for months on end. They’ll vilify young men like Kyle Rittenhouse while praising looters who are ‘just trying to feed themselves.’ They scream to defund the police while children are being shot and killed by violent thugs in every major city in America.
They’re not used to our side fighting back. But America’s gun owners have had the wool pulled off their eyes and they’re not standing down anymore.
