Chicago, IL — You just can’t make this up! In a move so hypocritical it boggles the mind, Chicago’s hard-left Mayor, Lori Lightfoot, has banned protestors from gathering on her block. She also authorized the Chicago Police Department to arrest any person who refused to leave the area when they were ordered to do so.
The ban was put into effect in July, but news of it just broke this week, forcing Lightfoot to defend her decision.
Critics immediately named Lightfoot’s ‘protestor free’ area of the Logan Square neighborhood “Fort Lori.” Less than a month ago, then-Shakespeare District Commander Melvin Roman sent out an email to his department explaining the ban:
“Please be advised that we are no longer allowing (any) protesters across the street from mayors (sic) residence … please make sure every officer in the house knows that if anyone shows up to protest (they) are to be immediately told that it is against the city code and state law to protest on a residential neighborhood,” Roman wrote. “They need to be told to leave immediately.”
Locals who share the neighborhood are calling it “Fort Lori” due to the strict security measures in the neighborhood. There are often up to 50 police officers stationed in the block — in addition to the personal security provided by CPD at the Mayor’s home. Some of the measures even go so far as to require other residents of the neighborhood to provide photo ID to enter their own neighborhood!
Additionally, the strong police presence — that escalated to an anti-riot armored vehicle in July — makes it hard for locals to be at ease. Between barricades on the streets and dozens of protestors being kept just outside the neighborhood, it’s hardly an inviting place, despite it’s steep price tag.
Lightfoot’s mansion is valued right at $1 million dollars, but she needs to utilize the ‘systemically racist’ Chicago Police Department to protect her?
That makes perfect sense — if you’re a radical leftist who is immune to reality!
Safety For Me But Not For Thee
When questioned about “Fort Lori” on Thursday, the Queen of Hypocrisy defended her use of police officers to protect her person and her property.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Lightfoot seems oblivious to her glaring inconsistency:
Lightfoot refused to elaborate on the specific threats, but said she receives them daily against herself, her wife and her home. Comparisons to how the Police Department has protected previous mayors’ homes, such as Rahm Emanuel’s Ravenswood residence, are unfair because “this is a different time like no other,” Lightfoot told reporters.
“I think that residents of this city, understanding the nature of the threats that we are receiving on a daily basis, on a daily basis, understand I have a right to make sure that my home is secure,” Lightfoot said.
Yes, she said that.
SHE has the right to make sure HER home is secure! But all the rest of you peons and peasants DON’T MATTER, so shut up! You and your tax-dollars exist to serve her and her wife!
The Queen’s Safety Matters, Worker Bees!
When it was pointed out that former Mayor Emanuel never had this level of security, Lightfoot brushed those comments aside.
“I’m not going to make any excuses for the fact that, given the threats I have personally received, given the threats to my home and my family, I’m going to do everything I can to make sure they’re protected,” Lightfoot said. “I make no apologies whatsoever for that.”
This ‘lady’ — it’s offensive to our Grandmas to call Lightfoot a lady — takes the cake.
She’s essentially saying, ‘No guns for all of you citizens who pay the bills, and get used to a defunded police department, but we’re keeping the cops around MY house!’
These radical anti-gun, anti-American politicians are blood suckers. They’re after power and control — and taking away the rights of American citizens is how they accomplish their goal. Every drop of power she has was siphoned off of a free American.
Lightfoot repeatedly said that she ‘has the right to protect herself and her family’ — but gun owners know she has worked HARD to take away the ability of Chicago citizens’ to do the same for their families.
