Chicago, IL — If any city in the world deserves a new nickname, it’s the Windy City. It would be far more fitting to call it the ‘Bloody City’.
And while the Independence Day weekend is always a high-crime weekend in the Bloody City, Chicago’s Police Department hasn’t had to deal with radical leftist Mayor, Lori Lightfoot.
Starting on Friday night and into the early morning hours on Monday, 87 Chicago residents were shot. 17 of those injured later died of their injuries. Two of the victims of the weekend’s murder spree were kids — a 7-year-old girl was “shot in the head around 7 p.m. Saturday in the South Austin neighborhood while outside at a family gathering.” A 14-year-old boy was also shot and killed.
It’s worth noting that two of the shootings qualify as ‘mass shootings’ but somehow those aren’t making the news. Of course, gun owners already know why.
The Numbers Don’t Lie
Data from Chicago police shows that shootings in the Bloody City have increased by 75% in June of this year compared to June 2019. Similarly, murders rose by 78% in the same time frame.
That’s nearly an 80% increase in murders over last year.
In June of this year, 424 people were shot, and 89 were murdered — compared to 242 shootings and 50 murders during the same month last year.
At the exact same time, the number of arrests has DROPPED by more than half.
That’s right. With police being defunded and reigned in all over the country, Chicago’s Police are understandably hesitant to risk their careers or even their lives if they go against the mob or dare to arrest a ‘good boy’ just ‘minding his own business.’
Lori Lightweight’s Leftist Ideology To Blame
Meanwhile, Mayor Lori Lightfoot doesn’t have much to offer for solutions. When asked point blank about the rise in violence under her leadership, radical Democrat Lightfoot said that the issue was “complicated.”
For Lightfoot — as for all of these anti-gun Democrat mayors — the issue revolves around Chicago not having enough gun control. She said, “That’s a complicated question. We have way too many guns on the streets.”
Meanwhile, for Americans who don’t suffer under the delusions of the left, it’s pretty obvious why Chicago’s crime has skyrocketed.
Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara wasn’t going to fall on his sword for Lightfoot, either.
Catanzara said, “When the top official in this city is blaming the police for everything that’s wrong, to hide their inefficiencies and inadequacies, it definitely makes people stop and wonder, ‘What am I doing? Am I going home? Am I going to have a job tomorrow? Am I going to be in jail next week?’”
Since Guns Aren’t The Problem, Gun Control Isn’t The Solution
If this horse hasn’t already been beaten to death, we’ll repeat it. Chicago already has more gun control than almost any other major city. It’s not a lack of gun control.
It’s that criminals don’t obey the law –duh– so all gun control does is take away innocent civilians’ ability to defend themselves against violent criminals.
These grasping, power-hungry leaders refused to shut down the violent mobs because they didn’t want to lose their seats for going against them and not cowing to their childish demands.
Lightfoot is deflecting the problem, but it’s becoming more and more obvious by the day that it won’t be ignored.
