Amnesty International Angry At Trump For Calling Gun Stores ‘Essential’ During Covid-19 Scare

The anti-gun crowd knows that the Chinese Virus has shot holes in their theory that more guns = more violence.  After all, with 3.7 million NICS checks run in the month of March alone, it’s pretty clear that America’s gun owners aren’t the problem.

But that hasn’t stopped them from trying to spin this crisis to benefit them.   Earlier today, Amnesty International demanded that Trump’s administration change their guidelines that designate gun stores as ‘essential’ during the Corona Crisis.

They’re referring to Trump’s Department of Homeland Security’s list that was published last Saturday. Chris Krebs, the Director of Cyber Security and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) released the guidelines which made it clear that they considered gun stores essential business.

Amnesty is convinced that gun crime is going to skyrocket and ripped into the Trump administration for it.

“Instead of taking aggressive measures to curb gun violence, the federal government has again prioritized gun ownership over the basic right to live in safety and listed firearms as essential and critical to pandemic infrastructure,” said Ernest Coverson, campaign manager for the End Gun Violence Campaign at Amnesty International USA. “Gun retailers are not essential businesses and should not remain open during this pandemic.”

Fear Propaganda Pile On!

Okay, we’re not shocked he thinks that.  He’s literally paid to think that.  For that matter, so are these folks:

Not wanting to let a crisis go to waste, the Brady Bunch joined in with the hand-wringing and wailing.  Brady chief counsel Jonathan Lowy said yesterday, “The gun lobby is not willing to stand for a few days or a few weeks of less profit in order to protect public health, and it’s outrageous and definitely not required by the Second Amendment. It’s a public health issue, not a Second Amendment issue.”

These folks really are out of touch will tens of millions of American citizens.  It’s almost as though they’ve bought their own fear propaganda and really believe that guns just randomly go off and shoot people. Or they believe that American citizens are simply foolish children who need to be told what to do and how to do it–utterly incapable of taking care of themselves.

They’re dead wrong.

Lets Exaggerate A Problem That Doesn’t Exist

But Amnesty went on to say that Trump’s guidelines would do more than just cause an increase in gun violence.  They claimed they would burden the medical system.  Their highly-emotional quote was:  “With hospitals at critically low capacity due to the pandemic, we cannot afford more injuries or deaths from gun violence.  The federal government has made a mistake that will only lead to more lives lost because of senseless gun violence.”

First of all, hospitals are not anywhere near capacity, and in fact are laying people off, cutting shifts for nurses, and etc.  Way to feed hysteria and fear-mongering.

But secondly, Amnesty totally ignores that guns are used defensively — to save lives — between 16 and 100 times more often than they are used criminally to take life.  And in case they don’t like those numbers, it’s worth mentioning that they came directly from the CDC.

Finally, Americans own nearly 50% of the guns on the planet.  Estimates put the number around 390 million guns, and that number is from a study done two years ago.  If American gun owners were inherently violent and dangerous….the blood would be running in the streets!  As the bumper sticker says, “If gun owners were the problem, you’d know it.”

Thank God for Average Joe Americans

No, America’s gun owners are law abiding people. They’re good neighbors.  They care about their families and their communities.  In fact, by being able to defend themselves and their families, they not only are a deterrent to criminals, but they free up police to stop the real bad guys.  We don’t need one cop for every 20 citizens when 6 of those 20 citizens have firearms.

Amnesty International, take a hike.  You’re just posturing for more donations and funding from the radical left who already agree with you.  Meanwhile, in America, gun owners are the backbone of this country and they always will be.
