Man Released Early Due to Covid-19 Breaks Into Home, Assaults Woman With Knife

American Fork, UT–Who could have seen this coming?  Not our all-wise, all-seeing politicians!  A man was arrested in American Fork, UT on Monday after breaking into a random house, tying up the woman who owned it, and threatening to kill her with a knife.

On March 17th, Joshua Haskell, 42, was released early from a halfway house.  On March 19th, just two days later, the man chose a home at random, and forced his way inside with a “long serrated knife.”

The police affidavit describes the rest of the scene:  The homeowner was asleep in her bed when she woke to the sound of creaking stairs.  She told police that she saw a ‘man she had never seen before’ enter her bedroom.  In his hand was a big knife “raised towards his head with the knife pointing down.”

Can you imagine how terrifying this must have been for her?  This is literally the stuff of nightmares.

The woman shrieked and screamed for help.  At that point, “The victim began screaming and yelling, at which point the male told her to be quiet or he was going to cut her head off,” the affidavit states.

Haskell then tied her wrists and ankles with shoelaces.  He took her bank cards, her cell phone, her car keys, and demanded the PIN numbers for her bank cards.  He threatened that if she gave him the wrong numbers, he’d come back and kill her.

Drug Addicts Have Dumb Ideas

But the man didn’t know that the woman’s son lived in the house.  When he heard his mom crying out he had dialed 911.  When the officers arrived, Haskell was still in the bedroom with the woman!  When Haskell realized that the cops were already in the downstairs of the home, he got into bed with the woman.  He demanded she tell the cops that he was her lover!   As he was adjusting the sheets, the woman ran down the stairs.  The police reports states that she “ran downstairs to officers in a panicked and horrified manner,” police wrote.

Police then arrested Haskell at gunpoint.   The poor woman told police that she “was sure she was going to die and that she was just waiting for the suspect to stab her.”

How Did This Guy Get Here?  Thank A Leftist

Haskell had been incarcerated in the Utah State Prison.  He had been arrested for drug related charges at least four times in the past and had a lengthy criminal record.  But you see, he was techincally a non-violent offender!

He had been released to a halfway house in an attempt to have fewer prisoners in the Utah State Prison.  Then, as the halfway house filled to capacity, Haskell was released early from there, as well.

Police said, “It is of note that Haskell had recently been incarcerated at the Utah State Prison after previously being released on parole and committing a parole violation. Within in the last few days, Haskell was released from the Utah State Prison to a halfway house. … However due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, he was suddenly released on (March 17).”

Haskell is facing a slew of new charges including aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, first-degree felonies; aggravated kidnapping, possession of a weapon by a restricted person, and drug possession, third-degree felonies.

So all the soft-headed leftists who wanted to let the ‘poor misunderstood prisoners’ walk out of prison ahead of Covid-19 owe this lady an apology and a check for her upcoming therapy bill.

Those people who think that evil is in the weapons and not in people’s hearts are dead wrong.  It wasn’t the steak knife that threatened to kill this lady but the evil man holding it!

Social Unrest Is When Weapons Are Needed Most

When you’re facing unprecedented times, runs on the grocery store, many thousands of criminals released simultaneously across the country, and police not responding to calls for petty crime….that’s exactly when you need a gun.  It’s a tragedy that this woman had to be a guinea pig for the anti-gun left and their soft stance on criminals.

Now more than ever, carry every day.
