Virginia Attorney General: Second Amendment Sanctuaries Won’t Stop Gun Control

Richmond, VA — It’s almost like the rabid Democrats in Virginia are trying to play a volatile game of chicken with gun owners.

The nearly daily news updates from Virginia show the Governor’s office in a clumsy dance with gun owners who are intent on defending their rights.

On Friday, Virginia’s Attorney General Mark Herring released an official opinion on the Second Amendment Sanctuary movement that has swept the state.  He said, in effect, that the resolutions passed by the counties and cities in Virginia have “no legal effect.”

Herring’s four-page opinion went on to say that the resolutions would not nullify gun control.  He said, “It is my further opinion that localities and local constitutional officers cannot nullify state laws and must comply with gun violence prevention measure that the General Assembly may enact.”

Drunk On Their Own Power

Hear that, Virginia?   They’re going to ram gun control down your throat.  They don’t care about the will of the people who pay their salaries.  Or about the fact they’re destroying the ideas that made America free.  They don’t care that they’re setting your grandchildren up for a tyrannical state where the people have no peaceful redress against bad laws.

Nope.  Herring is basically telling gun owners to choke on it.

Herring’s opinion comes after more than 100 counties and cities in Virginia have passed Second Amendment Sanctuary resolutions.   Virginia only has 95 counties, but there are more than 30 cities that stand as independent municipalities who can pass their own city resolutions. So out of roughly 125 possible areas that COULD pass a resolution against gun control, more than 100 already have.

Herring—seemingly intent on angering as many taxpaying citizens and gun owners as possible–also included the following statement in his press release:

“When the General Assembly passes new gun safety laws they will be enforced, and they will be followed.  These resolutions have no legal force, and they’re just part of an effort by the gun lobby to stoke fear.”

The Hypocrisy of the Radical Knows No Bounds

That’s not what early Americans thought when they taught the principle of nullification in law schools for decades.

And that’s not what the left believes when it comes to immigration law.  Or laws about marijuana. Heck, this contradicts what Herring’s office has said previously on both topics!  They are all about local officials flaunting state law when it follows their leftist agenda.

Herring, if you want to play chicken, we’re ready any time.   Gun owners are FED UP.
