ALBANY — While the nation’s media is focused on the Dayton, OH and El Paso, TX shootings, anti-gunners are happily using the political cover to ram through anti-gun legislation.
That’s what’s happened in New York, as radical leftist Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a bill into law Tuesday that bans both the manufacture and possession of knives that fail to set off metal detectors.
These knives, often called “undetectable knives” or “ghost knives” are made from carbon fiber or ceramic, and due to their composition, do not set off metal detectors.
Cuomo said, “Undetectable knives are meant to be used by trained members of our police and military forces for covert operations — not regular civilians attempting to sneak weapons past metal detectors,” Cuomo said.
The new law goes into effect November 1st, and makes the possession of these knives a Class A misdemeanor, and can earn the carrier up to a year in jail.
The woman who sponsored the bill, Sen. Diane Savino said, “We know firsthand how the possession of a seemingly innocuous tool was used to hijack three planes and take thousands of lives,” she claimed in her bill memo.
This is just such a ridiculous stretch, to try to tie these knives to 9-11 and hope it sticks.
But everybody knows that the box cutters used that day were made of metal, with razors for the blade.
But hey, as long as they’re banning anything that could possibly be used as a weapon that won’t set off metal detectors, they had better ban pencils, pens, toothbrushes that *could* be sharpened to an edge, rope, and on and on the list could go.
But this is how the left works: make a scary connection to a tragedy without ever demonstrating how the law you’re trying to pass would have prevented the tragedy like you’re implying it would have.
Let’s ban something that wasn’t used on 9-11 because it could have been used on 9-11!
No, just like gun free zones, universal background checks, waiting periods and other gun control efforts, the statistics show that they would not have stopped the majority of the mass shootings in this country.
So too, no data was shown on the number of crimes this undetectable knife law is supposedly going to prevent, only a vague implication that it could have prevented 9-11.
But this is just another step in Cuomo’s anti-American plan to disarm Americans even of their knives.
We haven’t forgotten his previous attempts to ban nearly any pocketknife of any kind—which was later ruled unconstitutional.
We’ve all seen how in Britain you can’t buy a toddler’s silverware set or even plastic cutlery without a permit.
That’s the utopia that Cuomo and his cronies dream of…. a world where every citizen is helpless, and only the government has weapons.
He’s in for a shock when American gun owners shake off their sleep and exert their muscle and take back their rights.
