Boca Raton, FL – A 75-year-old former librarian was murdered on Monday after one of the men delivering her new washer and dryer set beat her to death with a mallet and then doused her with chemicals.

Jorge Luis Dupre Lachazo, 21, has been arrested and charged with the murder of Evelyn Udell.

Police say that two men were delivering the woman’s new appliances from Best Buy to her house when one of the delivery men, David Gonzalez, stepped outside to make a phone call.

While outside, Gonzalez heard screams and came inside the door to find the elderly woman on the floor in a pool of her own blood.

He backed out of the house and called 911.

In the audio of the 911 call released by police, Gonzales was very emotional and kept saying, “”I need somebody. I need police here!”

He then tells the dispatcher that he doesn’t know what happened, but said, “I saw a lot of, a lot of, a lot of screaming. So I (inaudible) go inside, I saw the lady on the floor.”

While he was on the phone with 911, the suspect ran out of the house to their delivery truck and was attempting to drive away.

Gonzalez told the 911 dispatcher that Lachazo didn’t know how to turn the vehicle on and couldn’t drive away because he didn’t know how to drive.

Local Police were able to catch the delivery van before it had even made it out of the neighborhood.

Police found a mallet in the house that Lachazo had used to beat the elderly woman.

Once he had beaten her, he doused her in chemicals–presumably to destroy evidence.

The elderly woman, Evelyn Udell, was taken to Delray Medical Center, where she later died of her injuries.

Police report that Lachazo admitted to doing cocaine and other drugs earlier in the day.   There is no known motive currently.
