Mom: ‘It Was Him or Me!’

(Cobb County, Georgia) – A mother of three in the 90 block of Griggs St narrowly escaped being the victim of a violent crime when an armed man burst into her home at 2:37 in the morning last week.

The woman, Shaquita Green, said that the out-of-control suspect was demanding to speak to her husband while forcing Green and her three children into the back of the house. When the suspect threatened to hurt her children, Green grabbed a gun of her own and shot the suspect, killing him.

“It was either him or me and I wasn’t going. My kids weren’t going to get hurt and they weren’t going to see me get hurt,” Green said.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect, 27-year old Keandre Funches died on the scene and that he was not acting alone. Javarian Mitchell has been arrested in connection with the case and is facing charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, false imprisonment, cruelty to children and felony murder.

Green was questioned by investigators but eventually released. Georgia is one of a growing number of states that have a Stand-Your-Ground law.
