South Carolina Suspect Shot in Self-Defense, Wrecks Stolen Car

(Lexington, SC) – In a bizarre situation, 27-yr-old Mark Day was shot by a homeowner while threatening residents there with a pressure washer. While it’s unclear what Day was doing at the home initially, he became violent, prompting the homeowner to shoot Day once in self-defense.

As Day fled the scene, two people stopped their vehicle to check on him. Day then assaulted the driver of the vehicle by repeatedly punching her in the face, and then fled in the vehicle.

According to the police, Day crashed the vehicle moments later in his attempt to escape. Day was taken into custody and has been taken to the local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, but no charges are expected against the homeowner at this time. South Carolina is a Stand-Your-Ground law state.
