Convenience Store Robbery Stopped by Armed Customer!

(Asheville, NC) – An attempted armed robbery was foiled late Saturday night at the M&J Food Store located on Old Hayward Road, according to comments made by the owner.

The owner, Jamaal Hamden, reported that two individuals came into his store armed with a handgun and a Taser. While attempting to rob the store, they were shot at by a customer and fled the scene.

Asheville Police Capt. Gary Gudac reported that officers found one of the suspects nearby, suffering from a gunshot wound.

A police spokesperson stated that the department would be charging one of the juveniles with a felony and misdemeanor once he was released from the local hospital.

The incident is still under investigation, and more charges may be forthcoming. North Carolina is a Stand–Your–Ground state.
